Will God Turn His Back on You?

It has been said that God turned His back on Jesus when Jesus took on our sins and died on the cross for us. The problem with this statement is that people take it literally and think that if God would do that to His own son then He would certainly do it to us. Rest assured that there is no way that God would give up on us.  He is crying out for us right up until the moment we take our last breath.

You see, although we cannot say what went through God’s mind as His only begotten son was tortured and murdered before His eyes; we know the immeasurable pain and anguish that our loving Father would have suffered as He took His hands off the situation and watched His son die.  Stop and think how you would feel if someone you love so dearly was put through what Jesus went through and you had to stand there and watch.  If it was me, I would have turned my face away because I wouldn’t be able to watch.

So, no God did not turn His back on Jesus.  Yes, He did take His hands off the situation and yes, He probably would have turned His face away in anguish. We know that He took His hands off the situation because in Luke 4:10,11; after Satan tempts Jesus, Satan then quotes the scriptures “For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you. And they will hold you up with their hands, so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone’”.  (Psalm 91:11,12) So why didn’t God protect Him here?  Well the very reason Jesus came down was to suffer and die for our sins, “God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17); and that is why God took His hands off the situation.

If we go back to the thought of God turning His back on us we need only stop and think.  Many of us will have heard of death bed conversions; where someone who has not known of, or denied Christ all their life but suffered from a lost or searching heart and when they are ‘on their death bed’ Jesus has come to them with His arms outstretched perhaps using one of us to tell them of Jesus’ love and they have accepted Him into their heart.

Would a God who has fought for us all our life right up to our death bed, turn His back on us?  Would a God that has sent the perfect son to die for us turn His back on us?  Definitely ‘NOT!”

Know that God wants you any time, day or night.  He is definitely facing you with both arms outstretched reaching for you; BUT remember we can’t put off our commitment to Jesus. He wants us, any time day or night, but we don’t know when He will come to get us.

Remember Jesus’ words to us, “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming…. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”; (Matthew 24:42,44).

Is your back turned on Jesus?

God bless you all
